A train tressel which Caltrain and Union Pacific runs on burst into flames early this morning. Few trains encountered some major delays this morning, but Caltrain says they’re back on track. The remaining problem now is that they have only one track. The flames were huge in San Jose off of McLellan Avenue and Willow Street slightly past 3 a.m.
A huge train trestle traversing across the Guadalupe River was burning. The firefighters took about 45 minutes to clear the fire. They had to be extra careful because the wood was soaked in creosote, a chemical used to prevent rot. That created a breathing hazard. San Jose Fire stated they have responded to several fires in this area which regularly involve homeless encampments. They are still investigating what caused the fire.
